Reasons To Travel To Zipolite, Mexico

When thinking of traveling to Mexican beach towns usually people think of the Riviera Maya, the Cabos, Puerto Vallarta or other places in Baja California. A lot of travelers either forget how great a trip to the beaches in Oaxaca can be. There are beaches like Huatulco, Puerto Escondido, Puerto Angel and Mazunte which attract several visitors each month, but you should also consider the more hippie atmosphere that you will be able to find in Zipolite. It can be a bit tricky to get to Zipolite than it would be the other beaches in the area, but if you want to really relax then it will be worth it.

Forget The Bathing Suit
If you feel comfortable in your own skin then you will enjoy Zipolite. One of the biggest draws of the area is that it is the one beach in Oaxaca where clothing is optional. There are plenty of people who decide to go nude, but it is completely optional; most of the people who visit the south side of the beach will have bathing suits on. The people on the north side of the beach are more likely to be
taking in the sun without any tan lines after going back home.

Chance To Relax
While Zipolite will not give you the type of accommodations that other Mexican beaches will give you, you will have a better chance to relax here. There are no big resorts in the area, no chain hotels or supermarkets, not even an ATM Machine (so make your withdrawals before you get there). The tourists usually head to the other beaches in Oaxaca, in part because it is a bit more difficult to get to Zipolite than it is to go to Huatulco or Puerto Escondido. There is no bus terminal, and while a lot of people see that as an inconvenience, the visitors to the area love the fact that the beach is not that packed.

Lodging Options
While there are no big resorts, you should not think of Zipolite as a beach with no good lodging options. There are budget friendly options and there are better hotels close to the beach. If you are looking to save money then you can camp here, but if you want an ocean view room then you can get that here as well. If you want to spend somewhere around 35 dollars a night you can get a very comfortable room just steps from the sand.

Food
It is important to know that this Mexican beach town is located in the state of Oaxaca which is known for its great food. You can have food at your hotel or one of the small palapa restaurants on the beach. These restaurants offer great traditional Mexican food, but it is recommended that you have tlayudas. Tlayudas are from the state of Oaxaca and they can be hard to find in other locations. Most of the food that you will have in Zipolite is traditional Mexican as there are no big restaurants in the area yet. You could also do some grocery shopping at the small stores in the area or stop by the Oxxo (similar to 7-11) before you make a turn on the road to Zipolite.
